About USAID Project:
USAID Uganda is funding a new five-year Youth Leadership for Agriculture
program to increase economic opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Ugandan
female and male youth aged 10 to 35, in agriculture- related fields, in order
to increase their incomes and build entrepreneurial, leadership, and workforce
readiness skills. Pending confirmation of funding, TechnoServe will lead this
program in select districts in Uganda, including Northern Uganda, through
market systems and facilitative approaches. This program will focus on
achieving two specific objectives by partnering with both public and private
entities
(1) increased incomes of youth working in agricultural value chains
(specifically maize, beans and coffee); and
(2) improved skills development (entrepreneurship, employability,
leadership, and life skills) obtained through formal and non-formal education
and training organizations.
Job Summary:
The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will work closely with the Chief of Party
to manage the day-to-day operations of the Program. The DCOP will offer
technical and managerial leadership and will focus on building partnerships
with key stakeholders. In the absence of the COP, the DCOP will assume full
responsibility for the Program.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate for the USAID Project career placement should hold a
Master's degree in agricultural economics, economics, business, international
development, public policy, education, or other relevant field.
·
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant
field with 12 years of experience may be substituted for a Master's degree
·
At least eight years’ experience in international development, preferably
in agriculture, private enterprise development, or youth development.
·
Possess an excellent track record of achieving results in similar
activities, demonstrated high level leadership, interpersonal, technical,
analytical, and skills.
·
Proven ability to successfully lead and manage challenging projects
involving both public and private sector stakeholders; strong operations
management and project management skills
·
High level of leadership, interpersonal, technical and analytical skills,
including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively
with a broad range of public and private sector counterparts and other key
stakeholders
·
Prior experience working in emerging markets. Preference for work
experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially East Africa and Uganda
·
Excellent management and communication skills.
·
Demonstrated understanding of and passion for youth economic empowerment
and improvement of livelihoods.
·
Highly passionate about market-led approaches and to helping the poor
improve their livelihoods.
·
Strong focus on results.
·
Experience working in Uganda is preferred
·
Prior and proven experience successfully leading USAID funded programs is
desired
·
Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in Langi, Acholi, and/or
Kiswahili is an added advantage.
·
Prior experience practically applying market systems and facilitative
approaches
