Job Purpose:
The Politics Team is responsible for the planning, implementation and
monitoring of the Danida engagement in good governance and
• HIV/AIDS, including policy and technical dialogue with Government
• of Uganda, Civil Society and Development Partners.
The Politics Team is responsible for a number of programmes focusing on
strengthened democratisation, protection of human
• rights, access to justice and
promotion of the rule of law, peaceful co-existence, improved accountability
and enhanced quality of service delivery in Uganda. Furthermore, the team is
responsible for
• political reporting to HQ.
Main Responsibilities
• Contribute to the
Embassy's overall political analysis and reporting about the political
development in Uganda and the wider region.
• Actively represent
Denmark and pursue Danish interests in relevant dialogue fora with the
Government of Uganda, other development partners and civil society.
• Provide Embassy
colleagues with strategic advice to facilitate effective policy dialogue within
their respective areas and participate in management of development programmes
in the area of governance and human rights based approach.
• Participation and
contribution to overall donor coordination and harmonization.
• Contribute to the
Embassy's external communication and public diplomacy.
• General day-to-day
programme administration; timely follow up on budgets, disbursement planning,
financial reporting and audits.
Qualifications
A minimum of a master's degree in a development related discipline
(Political science, development economics, and public administration and
management).
Experience
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience from working in an government
or with civil society.
Knowledge and skills:
• A broad knowledge and
interest in the area of Ugandan domestic politics, regional politics and
security as well as development aid
Experience working with government institutions at senior level Experience
working with development partners and civil society
• Concrete experience with
applying the principles of the Human Rights Based Approach.
Experience from management of development programmes, incl. financial
management. aid effectiveness donor coordination and harmonisation Willingness
and ability to work for the priorities and interests of the Danish Government
• Strong analytical and
writing skills
• Good operational and
general day-to-day programme administration skills
• Well-developed
communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
