Job Purposelilole Overview:
The role of the Africa Support Accountant is to assist the AFM in
supporting the region's country finance teams to help themachieve their
objectives of timely and accurate reporting and the sound financial management
of Malaria Consortium's portfolio of programmes in each country. In addition,
the Africa Support Accountant will provide the financial monitoring and support
for a number of Malaria Consortium‘s multi country projects. which are based in
the regional office in Kampala.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the AFo finance and management accountant to:
0 Prepare and maintain the regional accounts in accordance with Malaria
Consortlum's Financial Policies and procedures.
- Prepare regional budgets and forecasts, including the mapping of phasing
of the multi-country programmes
- Submit a monthly checklist in line with the monthly reporting timetable.
Support the Country Offices to:
o Prepare financial donor reports in the region and in ensuring submissions
to donors are completed on a timely and accurately basis.
0 Prepare the annual budget and revised forecasts on an accurate and timely
basis,
0 Undertake Country visits to help ensure quality is maintained in all
aspects of financial management.
0 Review the monthly checklists, with reconciliations prepared by each country
office and provide summary feedback to the AFM and then CFMs.
0 Assist in coordination on the internal audit of local offices.
0 Provide a gap fill service for the financial management in country
programmes as required due to staff absence from leave or resignation.
0 Provide financial accounting support to County Finance Managers and
Financial Accountants in the region. Financial Monitoring - Regional Budgets
and HumCountry Programmes (MCP). Assist with the:
o Timely and accurate financial monitoring reports for the regional and MCP
budgets
o Monthly variance and burn rate analysis on a monthly for Regional and MCP
budget holders
o Timely and accurate preparation of MCP extemal donor financial reporting
as required
Additional tasks:
0 financial Systems Development and Strategic Input: working with the team
as required.
0 Legal. security and risk management: Conduct spot checks, review fixed
asset registers, monitoring compliance with policies.
0 Provide cover for the existing AFo FMA position as well as some AFM
duties as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
0 Qualified accountant in recognised global body e.g. ACA, ACCA. CIMA
o A bachelor's degree from a recognised university
0 Knowledge of NGO donors and their financial reporting requirements a
Minimum of 3 years accountancy experience, with at least a year in a managerial
position
0 Experience of USAID compliance Work Based Skills and Competencies:
- Working knowledge of accounting software
0 Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft excel
Good analytical and reporting skills High level of English, both written
and spoken Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong ability to
be able to manage and prioritise multiple tasks
- Experience in training and developing capacity of Finance staff
o Good attention to detail
OTHER KEY INFORMATION
Travel involved:
Extensive travel may be required to support the countries in the region and
to provide cover if necessary. This could be up to 40% of the staff member's
time, due to the requirement to provide flexible support to country offices.
